What we’ve been up to………

This week in EYFSwe have been learning about Mr Grinling the lighthouse keeper. In Literacy we decided to help Mrs Grinling with Mr Grining’s lunch by planning for her a delicious healthy lunch. We used all the sounds we could hear to write labels for the foods we had chosen. In the story some pesky seagulls decided to steal Mr Ginling’s lunch. In Maths we used this concept to help us with our subtraction number problems. We learnt that when we subtract a smaller number from a larger number the total is always less than the whole number we started with. We have extended our learning by thinking about staying safe by the water. We have learnt that the RNLI are there to support us if ever got into danger whilst out at sea. We explored how sea rescue has changed in history and read the story of Grace Darling to find out where it all started. Please don’t forget to ensure your child has a P.E. kit in school with plimsolls to enable us to go outside.

Year 1 had a fantastic day yesterday! We enjoyed exploring the castle and the underground tunnels. We were able to recognise the different parts of the castle including the arrow loops! It was interesting to see the different rooms including the great hall and where the toilets used to be!

In RE we have learnt about synagogues and Jewish customs. We explored Jewish artefacts and completed a puzzle to identify what each one was and what it was used for.

In PE we have enjoyed practising tennis skills. We’ve tried to serve using the racquets by watching carefully when the ball is thrown.

In Year 2 we have read part of the Narnia, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe story. We thought about whether Lucy should continue on her journey through Narnia or whether it would be safer to go back home. We wrote our ideas in the form of a debate and gave our reasons and opinions. In Maths we have continued to explore subtraction, however moving on to trickier calculations that bridge 10 for example 54 – 29. We have then applied our knowledge of addition and subtraction into missing number problems, putting what we know into the part-part-whole model to represent this. In Computing we are still figuring out the mystery of the missing chocolate cake and have sent emails to staff across the school to see if they can help. We can’t wait to see their replies! In Science we have finished our learning on habitats by exploring food chains that occur in various habitats, applying our knowledge to explain why a polar bear would not eat a hedgehog.

School picnic lunch for Royal Wedding

Caterlink will be serving a picnic style lunch to those children who normally have a school dinner on a Friday.  All other children to bring packed lunch as normal. Please ensure your child has a water bottle in school on this day.  We are hoping that the weather is nice as if the sun is shining and it is warm enough we hope to go out on to the field as a whole school and all eat our lunches together. If you have a picnic blanket or a large towel we can use, please send it in with your child’s name on it.
