What we have been learning …..
This week in EYFS we have been learning about the Oxford Reading Tree family. These are the characters found in many of our reading scheme books. We used our adjectives to describe the characters so that our friends could guess which character was being described. In Maths we have been continuing to count out a given number and have been learning to look at a quantity and work out how many objects there without moving them to count. We have also had an opportunity to explore the forest area and looked at how the environment was beginning to change with the signs of autumn. We have also been using our fine and gross motor skills during our ‘Wiggle Wednesday’ activities.
Year 1 started the week enjoying the story of Tiddler, the story telling fish. We then looked at all the different types of fish in the story. This lead to investigating what makes a fish a fish. We learnt how they use their gills to help them breathe and that their scales are there to protect their bodies. In Maths we have been comparing numbers, deciding which is the greatest and which is the smallest numbers and putting in the signs to show our understanding. We have also explored feelings this week. Rather than just saying we are happy and sad we learnt to explain feelings like delighted, upset and content. Many children said they feel content in school which is lovely to hear! In PE this week we worked with a partner to make up a gymnastics sequence including the balances we have practised earlier in the term.
We’ve had a fun filled week in Year 2! Using our knowledge of instructions we have written our own recipe for making a healthy wrap. In DT we chose our ingredients after tasting them, planned our wrap and then made it. We even got to eat it and then evaluated it, thinking about the taste, texture and the look of it. In Maths we have used our place value knowledge to recall numbers 1 more and 1 less, 10 more and 10 less than a given number. We then applied this knowledge by adding 2 two digit numbers together, showing this in the Part-Part-Whole model and Dienes.
