A huge welcome our Reception children and families!
It’s so good to see our new children start school this week and great to meet new and returning families. The children are settling well and exploring their new environment making friends and meeting lots of new important people. Some children take a little longer than others and the part-time start is supporting this. Below you can read about what they have been learning. I’m sure many of you haven’t been told much at all (this is quite normal!). We hope that you have received the home learning grid via parent mail this week which explains what your child is learning this term and how you can help at home.
We are looking forward to them staying for lunch next week with their first full day on Friday.
Star of the week
We have changed our reward systems slightly and we will now be choosing a star of the week. This is a badge given on a Friday to a child who has made good choices in their learning and behaviour which underpin our school values …’altogether we learn, love, respect and have fun!’ Your child will be rewarded with green cards which help them move from the rainbow to the sunny rainbow after 1 green card and then to the sunshine after 2 green cards. When they do this they will be praised by their class teacher and a song will be sung to them. When they do this twice they go to the year group leader or another teacher for a certificate. There is no longer the 3 times reward as we have the star of the week instead. Full details are in our good behaviour policy on our website. At lunch time children will be rewarded with coins which are a different colour for each class. The class with the most get extra play time or I.D as their reward. Children who receive this award will receive a badge but these have not arrived in school yet. Children will be given a sticker and will be given a badge once they arrive.
As you know Miss Stanley and Mr Horne now have a bouncing baby boy. Mr Horne is entitled to Paternity Leave and will be off to spend time with his new family next week (week beginning 18th September) and then again the week after half term. We obviously want to ensure that this causes as little disruption as possible to your child. Therefore the class will be taught by Mrs Collins, Mrs Somerville and Mrs Kennedy who all are familiar teachers to your child and the class. Mrs Brown, Mrs Troman, Mrs Bridges and Mrs Stephens (teaching assistants) will be there as normal every day.
The school office will now be open at the following times:
The school office will now be open the following times:
Monday to Wednesday 8am – 4.30pm
Thursday and Friday 8am – 4pm
We are looking for a relief cleaner who would be available to cover sickness of current cleaners at short notice; the hours are from 3pm – 5pm. If you are interested or know of anyone who is can you please let Nicola in the office know.
We are looking for a temporary midday supervisor to cover for 9-12 weeks starting in October. If you are interested, please collect an application form from the school office. The closing date is Wednesday 20th September.
Stanley Baker Studios – School photographs
Stanley Baker Studios will be in school on Tuesday 26th September to take individual photographs of the children. If you have any younger siblings or children at the Junior School you would like included in the photo please come to school hall from 8am. We have informed the Junior School that some siblings may arrive slightly late. Breakfast Club will be in part of the hall from 7.45am so parents should enter through the far end door of the hall at the side of the school.
What we’ve been up to………
This week in EYFS we have had so much fun getting to know the adults and children that are going to be not only in our class but in our year group! We have explored the school and are beginning to find out where everything is. We have already made our own peg labels and started to learn information about our class animal. We enjoyed sharing the special objects that we had put in our decorated bags and it really has helped us to get to know a little more about everyone (thank you grown-ups for your support with this).
A little reminder to bring in welly boots and PE kits next week please!
Year 1 have had an amazing week this week. We have enjoyed creating our own fantasy starfish creatures with scary teeth, google eyes and feathers! In Maths we have been practising our counting and ensuring we write our numbers correctly up to 10. We have had fun completing different reading challenges in the afternoons, especially working together to solve tricky questions.
We really enjoyed making our under the sea cookies and hope you enjoyed them at our open session tonight.
Wow! What a busy week it’s been in Year 2. We have been really interested in learning about Florence Nightingale and the impact she had on modern nursing. In Maths we have explored the place value of 2 digit numbers, thinking about how many 10s and 1s they contain. We have started to learn about the importance of a healthy lifestyle in PSHE, such as a balanced diet and regular exercise. We had a blast making healthy fruit smoothies to sell to our grown-ups! In PE we have started to create our own fitness workout, maybe your child will show you at home? We love being in Year 2!
Also it is getting a little colder out so please make sure that your child has a coat in school every day and wellies. Thank you.
We are thrilled that so many more children are cycling or scootering to school but please can we remind you that these should not be used on the playground after school. There have been a few accidents last year and therefore to prevent this happening again, we hope that you will encourage your child to wait until outside the gate before they ride on it. Thank you.

Parents felt the course increased their confidence and made them feel more calm and in control.
To listen to my child and understand why he feels the way he does before reacting negatively’
‘Think about how to reward things’
‘I know I need to try and look at things more from the children’s point of view and why they are behaving a certain way’ All of which are positive discipline methods.
