Christmas lunch day/Christmas jumper/t-shirt/accessory day

As previously detailed if your child already has a school dinner on a Monday no further action needed to be taken. If your child does not have a school dinner you must have booked a dinner for this day with the school office. All children will sit with their classmates including those that are having a packed lunch. This day will also be a day for children to wear non-uniform with a christmas theme i.e. Christmas jumper/t-shirt/accessory day.

Childrens Christmas parties

The children will be having a little party in their classes next week. The children do not need to bring in any food for their party and should wear school uniform all week except on Monday when it is Christmas jumper/T-Shirt/Accessory day.

Christmas fair

Thank you for a wonderful turnout to the Christmas fair last week, we really appreciate your support in fundraising for your children at Downs View.  We hope you all had fun on the different stalls and hearing the choir sing so beautifully.

The new committee members are still busy selling some bits left over and with the sales last night and tonight after school on the playground the money is still coming in.  The current profit stands at £1293.97 but we will bring you the final profit next week.

Also thank you for your generous donations this week at the school productions we raised £322.97.

We really appreciate the help and support you have given the new friends team this Christmas and we look forward to you joining us at events in 2017.

A BIG thank you again and Happy Christmas.

From the Friends of Downs View

I would just like to say a huge thank you to the Friends for all their hard work in preparing for, and making the fair such a success and to all the staff who helped out on the day – Tracy Kent, Headteacher.

What we’ve been up to………..

This week in EYFS we have thoroughly enjoyed sharing our Christmas Concert with you and would like to thank you all for coming and for helping with the children’s wonderful costumes. We hope you enjoyed it too! We have also been very busy with our Christmas preparations. This has involved writing, creating with paint, sequins, feathers to name just a few resources and have also begun thinking about pattern! We don’t want to say too much though as you are just going to have to wait and see!!! Remember if you have time over the holidays keep looking at the sounds and tricky words within the monkey books to help build your child’s recognition and confidence.

Just to end with the EYFS team would just like to say Happy Christmas and would like to thank you for your continued support this term.

In Year 1 this week the children have been learning the Nativity story. They sequenced the story and then wrote about their favourite part. We really enjoyed performing the Nativity play this week and would like to thank all parents for the wonderful costumes that were sent in. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did. Please keep practising those phonics/ key words at home and reading as much as possible. Have a fantastic Christmas and thank you for your support this term.

In Year 2 it has been such a busy week! We have shown our Christmas performance to the school and to adults and are really proud of our brilliant singing and acting. In English we have read the story The Night Before Christmas and thought about adjectives to describe Father Christmas’ appearance and personality. We then made a wanted poster using our ideas to find him. We have been really lucky to watch the Polar Express film and have compared the film version with the book whilst sipping hot chocolate and wearing our pyjamas. In Maths we have learnt about odd and even numbers and used our knowledge from last week on multiplication and division to sort numbers. We are getting really excited for Christmas now! Thank you for your support – please encourage your child to keep reading and practising all of the phonics/words sent home this term.

Choir

At the last session of the choir Miss Anderson recorded the children singing ‘Little Snowflake’. This recording will be emailed to the ‘Wake up with Webbo’ radio show on Radio Ashford 107.1FM. Hopefully it will be played for us so keep your ears peeled.

Unfortunately the children will not be able to sing at the Grange Care Home this side of Christmas due to the busy schedules of both the school and the home. It is hoped that the choir can entertain the residents in the new term with some new songs.

Thank you to Miss Anderson, Mrs Troman and all the children in the choir for giving such a wonderful performance at the fair last Friday.

Are you interested in learning about your child’s behaviour?

A Solihull course will start on Wednesday 18th January for 10 weeks. It will be held at the Sure Steps Children’s Centre, from 9.30am to 11.30am and will be run by Sam Ansell. The course aims to promote and encourage effective parenting, provide parents/carers with a strategy to repair situations when things go wrong, increase confidence and self-esteem in both parent and child, increase parents understanding of the different stages of development and learning. It will explore feelings, parenting styles, communication, sleep and anger and developmental needs. The programme is open to all parents/carers with children aged 0-16 yrs.

For more information or to book a place please call Sam Ansell on 07884866105.
