What we’ve been up to………

This week in EYFS we have been on a journey with Super Daisy to Planet Pea! We had a super time exploring what it was like on the planet and got an opportunity to record the things on a postcard the things that we saw using our adjectives (wow words) to describe them further I.e. fierce dinosaurs, slow tortoises. Look out for postcards arriving home soon! In Maths we have been beginning to think about 3D shapes and have been exploring objects in the classroom and sorting them according to which 3D shape they are I.e. Did you know that a cereal box is a cuboid and a dice is a cube? We also had fun dressing up for a belated World Book Day and enjoyed sharing some of the stories that these characters belong in.

A little pre warning now! After the Easter holidays we will be as much as we can undertaking our PE lessons outside so now is the time to get a pair of plimsolls and put them in the PE bag!

In Year 1 we have been so lucky to have an artist come into school, Mrs Hodge who many of you will remember who was a teacher at Downs View! We learnt how to weave using natural flowers, twigs and leaves into a frame to decorate our outdoor area. We really enjoyed learning this new skill and hope you see our new creations outdoors! In English we have been learning about the different parts of a plant and tree, focusing on labelling it and what the parts are for linked to our Science learning. In Maths we have been learning about counting in 2s and 5s. We have practised this skill a lot and tried our best to spot patterns to help us. During RE we learnt about the bible story Jonah and the whale and how it is important to listen to each other. We are trying carefully to remember this in class and when we are playing with our friends on the playground. In ICT we have practised recording our videos of making a salad. We had to follow our algorithm carefully to ensure we used the correct order and the iPad correctly. Super effort Year 1 with our belated dress up day- you all looked amazing and we hope you enjoyed it!

This week Year 2 have read the story ‘One Snowy Night’ we then thought about how the story would be different if it was set during a different season and wrote our own versions. In Maths we have been finding fractions of amounts and solved a variety of problems involving halves, quarters and thirds. In music this week we have explored the term ‘duration’ and decided which instruments are best for making long sounds and which are best for making short sounds. We then thought about which instruments best represented different mini beasts. In computing we have created our own PowerPoints about nocturnal animals, we learnt how to copy and paste images and information from the internet ensuring we followed all of our e-safety rules.
