What we have been learning …..

EYFS

This week in EYFS we have been thinking about birthdays, when they are and how to celebrate these. In literacy we made our own birthday cards to help celebrate our class mascot’s birthday. In maths we have been continuing to count out a given number of objects according to how many we had seen on a given picture. We have also been on an autumn walk to collect natural objects and created some rubbings of the objects that we had found.
Over half term please don’t forget to check the names in your child’s school clothes have not washed out!!!

Year 1

We have reached the end of a brilliant first term! We are very impressed with how well the children have settled into the demands of year 1 and are so proud of all they have achieved so far. In English this week we have been enjoying some poetry, with the children reading, reciting and performing part of a rhyming poem. We were impressed with the actions they came up with and the clear expressive voices they used for their performance. In maths we have been looking more closely at number lines and the order of numbers as well as starting to solve simple problems applying our mathematical knowledge. We rounded off our topic of “Under the Sea” with a fun performance of a Moana song which we added watery percussion sounds and a beat to. We hope you have found these useful too. We hope you all have a lovely half term break and look forward to seeing you refreshed and ready for term 2!

Year 2

What a busy term it’s been! This week we have learnt about the Great Fire of London and the changes that happened whilst rebuilding the city. In History we discussed the events of the fire and how they built the houses differently. In English we were lucky to have a visit in the Woodland area and Mr Corall set up an experiment with some fake houses to show quickly the fire would have spread. We thought about adjectives to describe the fire and used this language to write an eye witness report as if we had experienced the fire in 1666. In maths we have used our knowledge of addition of two 2 digit numbers in subtraction. We then used our knowledge of number bonds to solve missing numbers in number bonds to 100. We hope that next term will be as fun as this term!

Dangerous driving

It is has been brought to our attention that on three occasions cars have been seen ignoring the no entry signs and driving the wrong way along Ball Lane. This is very dangerous and illegal. If anybody sees this happening or any dangerous driving, we urge you take the down the number plate and report the driver to the police. As you may be aware we have a parking working party who meet regularly to discuss and address the issues around parking and driving, trying to find ways to improve congestion and promote safe driving. We will meet again on Thursday 1stNovember at 9.15am so if you would like to be part of this working party or have issues to raise, please contact the office and inform them.

Parent consultation meetings

We hope you enjoyed hearing about your child’s progress since beginning in September. Teachers and Teaching Assistants have enjoyed having the chance to get to know you as parents and carers better as well as sharing more personalised progress with you at parents evenings this week. There were many happy parent/ carers and children! If you were unable to attend, please make an appointment to see your child’s class teacher after the half term.
