Our learning this week in Reception ….

This week in EYFS we have been very impressed with the way that the children have settled and enjoyed their first lunch time experiences.

We have been getting to know the other half of our class when in the classroom and outdoor area and are beginning to make many new friends. (Please don’t worry if your child comes home and says they can’t rememberwho they have played with as they are still getting used to 29 new names!) In Literacy we have used our imaginations to create our own class stories taking our class mascot on an adventure. We then acted these stories out. In Maths we have been singing various counting rhymes that are supporting us with which number comes next in a sequence. We have also had our first Wiggle Wednesday where we got to explore a variety of fine motor control activities.

A little reminder: When you have share the reading book with your child please don’t forget to log this in their reading record book so that we ensure that your child moves up on their reading rocket. We would like as many children as we can get to the moon for reading four times in a week! Keep up the amazing work!

Learning in Year 1

We finally got to make our costumes this week and what a fun, messymorning that was! We were very impressed by the children’s ability towork as a team to share their ideas and create their masterpieces! From a woolly hat turned into a turtles head to seeing Mr Horne trying to fit into a child size jelly fish costume, it certainly provided a lot of laughs!

In English this week we have enjoyed reading and retelling the story of “The Fish who could Wish”.We then had a think about what we would wish for ourselves and practised writing our ideas using adjectives to make them sound more interesting. We have been learning to count backwards from a given number this week in maths. We have also been trying to remember which way round our numbers go when filling in the missing numbers.

As part of kindness week this week we decided to do some baking and have made some yummy cookies. Please come and buy some today (Friday 21 September) – we’re sure you’ll love them! We are looking forward to seeing you!

Learning in Year 2

This week has been a busy one in Year 2! In English we have continuedto explore ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ and have planned andwritten a description of our own chocolate room. We thought very carefully about the descriptive language we used to bring our imagination alive!

In Maths we have continued to build on our place value knowledge and have used this to write numbers to 100 in numerals and in words. Wethen estimated and represented numbers onto number lines. We had our Computing Let’s Learn

day and discussed algorithms as instructions. We used this knowledge to input instructions into programmable toys and used Scratch software.

In RE this week we have continued to think about what is important to Muslims and learnt then story of Muhammad and the cat. We used this idea to think about how it inspired Muslims to lead their lives and what inspires us to lead ours.

We are looking forward to seeing you in our classrooms this afternoon with the chance to meet the team and buy some delicious pizza made by the children!

Do you or a family member have some spare time which you would like to
put to good use?

Then come and be a volunteer at our school – we need you!

Mrs Collins will be holding a meeting on Wednesday 3rd October at 2.20pm for those of you who are interested in volunteering in school during the next academic year.

There are a range of things that you can be involved with including for example listening to readers, admin task for teachers and working with groups of children.

If you only have half an hour to spare each week your time will be greatly received. Please come along to the meeting and find out more if you are interested.

Community spirit

A huge thank you to the parent who found the green wooden train which was lost this week and brought it into school. You made a little boy and his family very happy!

Forest School

If your child is going to Forest School, please remember to send in tracksuit/old clothes and wellies so that they can get messy without worrying! Thank you
