This short term has been fun packed with lots of amazing learning experiences for your child. I can’t believe term 6 is fast approaching! As you know this is the term where your child will start preparing for their next steps as they move on to a new class. We have lots of opportunities planned to ensure that we prepare your child for the exciting changes ahead! We are sure that you will support us in ensuring that your child has a smooth transition through talking about the positive steps they are taking. Lots more information will be given to you next term to keep you fully informed. Please speak to your child’s class teacher if you have any questions.
What we have been learning………
This week in EYFS we have been looking at how foods change. We began the week by making jelly. We talked about the different stages involved in making jelly and what we thought would happen. We then followed instructions to make jelly to see if our predictions were correct. Of course we got to taste it too-yum! In Maths we have been learning to double numbers. We used our manipulatives each time to check our calculations and then recorded our findings in a ‘part-part-whole’. We have also been recapping on all of our learning this term on different celebrations that occur in a range of faiths. Ask your children to tell you about these!
We’ve had a lovely last week of term in Year 1. We finished off our “Be our Guest” topic by writing our own stories based on “The Tiger that came to tea” so be prepared to hear all about a unicorn or chicken that came to tea! This was lots of fun and the children used some super adjectives from their work last week in their writing. In Maths we have been consolidating our work on multiplication and division by practising grouping, counting up using our times tables and recording in various ways. We also had an RE morning where we found out how and why Jewish people celebrate Shabbat. Thank you to all the parents who came to our phonics information afternoon and evening on Wednesday. We hope you found it useful and will encourage all children to practise their blending and reading of real and not real (pseudo) words over the half term to keep their confidence in this up. We thank you for your support and understanding regarding the mixed class for next year. Please talk through the positives of the changes with your child. If you were unable to come to the meeting but would like to hear the information given and find out about which class your child is in next year, please speak to your child’s class teacher in person or via telephone.
What a busy last week of term we have had! Year 2 have completed their challenges and should be extremely proud of how hard they have tried. During out RE day we explored the holy books of the Torah, Qu’ran and Bible. We discussed some of the stories told in these religious sacred books and how the teachings can be applied to everyday life to be a better person. Within art this week we have explored the word of Liechtenstein and Warhol in creating self-portraits. We used different techniques and lots of bright colours. Then we evaluated our work against the skills used by the artists. We have had great fun this term. We can’t wait to learn more in Term 6!
Goodbye and farewell to Sarah Howard, our FLO
Unfortunately Sarah has decided to leave us and spend more time with her family. She has enjoyed her short time with us and has been very supportive to lots of families in so many ways. Thank you to Sarah for her support and hard work. Sarah will leave us on Friday 7thJune.
We are pleased to announce that Sam Ansell our previous FLO will be returning and will begin at Downs View on Monday 10thJune. For any parents who have not met Sam, please say hello on the playground in the mornings or phone the office to say hello!
Thank you to everyone who supported this event. Thank you to the Friends for organising this event and for all parents/ grandparents for their generosity. The children thoroughly enjoyed it which is the main thing, with the added bonus of raising just under £300.
Well done to Jessica from Owl class for guessing the correct amount of sweets in the jar and to the following children who won the cake decorating competition:
- Willow – Owl class
- Lily-Grace – Dolphin class
- Luke – Penguin class
With the weather warming up…..
Please remember to provide your child with a sun hat, to put sun cream on your child before school and to ensure they have a water bottle in school every day
Have a great Half Term Break!
