What we’ve been up to………..
This week in EYFS we have been exploring the story of the Gruffalo. We found out that he is a little partial to a bowl of woodland soup so we decided to make him some as we thought he was probably lonely after the other animals in the forest kept running away from him. We managed to follow the instructions to make delicious soup and there was even enough for us all to try some! We also helped the Gruffalo weigh with scales the vegetables so that he could find out which was the heaviest and which was the lightest. If you are feeling brave over the weekend perhaps try using the scales to make a cake! Thank you for coming in to Book Look and the Maths workshops- it has been great to see you!
This week in Year One the children have been working on using numbers to 20. The children first counted numbers to twenty and worked on writing these as numerals and words. The children worked on looking at more than one number and compared them using the terminology of more and fewer, most and fewest. In English the children received a letter from Mrs Fossil asking for them to write a persuasive leaflet to get more people to visit the Natural History Museum.
This week in Year Two the children have been writing a Divali non-fiction book to be shown to the children in Reception on how to make a diva lamp. The children first focused on the features of a non- fiction book and then wrote their very own contents page, introduction, flow chart, diagram and glossary. In Maths this week the children have focused on multiplication in lots of 2’s 5’s and 10’s. In Science the children have looked at the life cycle of chickens and worked out what is inside an egg and how this helps a chick grow in the egg.
Year R – Wonderful Writers Workshop
Parents of children in year R are invited to attend a Wonderful Writers Workshop on Wednesday 7th December at 2.20pm. In this workshop we will be exploring how Reception children develop in their writing ability, how we teach writing at school and giving you ways in which to make writing fun at home. There will be opportunities to speak to your child’s class teacher too! You will have received a letter in book bags about this which needs to be returned to school if you can come along.
We are sorry but on this occasion it is just for adults we can’t cater for younger siblings.
Maths Workshops
Thank you to all parents who attended the Maths workshops this week. It was great to see so many of you learning alongside your children and working through some of the challenges. We have had very positive feedback and will happily put on another later in the year.
Friends of Downs View
We would firstly like to thank those of you that could make our recent ‘Think Tank Social’ at The Rose! It was a great evening and we achieved quite a bit with regards to organisation of the Christmas Fair and there is still a lot happening in the background.
We now have a full team on the PTA as named committee members but we are always looking for more help! We recently sent out and email to anyone email address who has offered to help! If you were expecting an email and haven’t received one we send our deepest apologies and would ask that you drop us a quick email to friendsofdownsview@gmail.com.
Mandy Dunkerley is the Chair and is Nanny to Alexander in Starfish class and Teddy Seahorse class
Maureen Thomas is our Treasurer and is Mummy to Zoe in Seahorse class,
Francesca Fox is the new Secretary and also Mummy to Oliver in Seahorse class and Grayson in Owl class.
You will often find us in the playground so do feel free to stop us and have a chat we are always available and open to any offers of help or fundraising ideas!
NON SCHOOL UNIFORM DAY WILL BE 2ND DECEMBER all we ask is that Year R and Year 1 parents donate a Tombola Prize for a child a small toy, book etc. Year 2 donate an adult Tombola Prize such as Chocolate, Luxury Biscuits etc., all donations will gratefully received. If you work for a Company who can offer a Raffle Prize that would also be really amazing. We are very excited and want to make sure the Christmas Fair is fun filled for all!
We are looking for Volunteers for the Christmas fair so if you can help in any way we would massively appreciate it. Wrapping lucky dip present is in school hours, helping with stalls on the day in just half hour time slots so that you can still enjoy the Christmas Fair fun as a parent too!! We are also keen to find a few more paid stall holders so if you have a business or know someone who would be interested in a stall please do pass our details over or get in touch! We look forward to talking to you all and hearing from you at friendsofdownsview@gmail.com
Best regards
