What we’ve been up to………

Wow what we week we have had in EYFS! We began our week by reading the story of the Bog Baby which led us to thinking about what different animals need to keep safe and healthy. During our literacy lessons we made our own posters to inform others so that they too could help to look after the animals in our environment! In Maths we have been continuing our learning of number by trying really hard to recognise the teen numbers and count out the required amount. Please consolidate these at home as we are finding these a little tricky especially remembering that the 1 goes first! We were really lucky to have a visit on Wednesday from Mrs Hodge (some of you may remember her as she was a teacher at our school before leaving to spend more time with her family). She came in to teach us a new art skill. We learnt how to make wax resist paintings. Pop into the hall as some of these are on display! Of course we have also been buzzing this week due to the school trip to Tyland Barn. As I am writing this though we have not yet been so look out for some further details on what we did next week!

In Year 1 we have found learning about the Battle of Hastings really interesting. We have re-enacted the battle on the field and written our own comic strips for what the different people may have said. In Design and Technology we have started creating our drawbridges following our design ideas. We had to think carefully about which materials would be best and how to create the moving mechanism. In Maths we have started to explore multiplication through learning about arrays. We have created equal rows and amounts and represented our calculations through drawings, part-part-whole and repeated addition sentences. During our Religious Education learning, we explored different Christian artefacts that we may find in a church. We also prepared questions which we would like to ask the Vicar next week when we visit the church.

In Year 2this week we have been busy writing poetry, we were inspired by the story of Alice in Wonderland and have written a shape poem and rhyming poem. We had some amazing ideas! In Maths we have used directional language when describing how an object has moved e.g. left, right, up, down, clockwise and anti-clockwise. We recapped multiplication and division, then applied these in problems showing our reasoning. In RE we have continued to discuss the importance of sacred books, discussing the Christian meaning behind the story of the Lost Sheep. In Computing we have begun to learn about emails. Mrs Kent emailed us with a mystery of finding out who had moved the chocolate cake in the staff room! Our challenge is to follow clues in her emails and reply to her with our ideas. We must remember how to be safe whilst using emails! In PE we have continued our tennis skills, practising hitting a ball a small distance for our partner to catch.

Shelves needed

As mentioned last week the Friends are very happy with their new shed but now need some shelves inside to store their resources and uniform.  If anybody has any spare shelving/ suitable wood, please let one of the Friends or the school office know.  Thank you
