What we have been learning………
This week in EYFS we have been on a brilliant boat journey. All passengers reached their destination safe and sound! It did however lead to us to thinking about how to stay safe near water. In our literacy learning we made posters to help remind others of the water rules i.e. stand back from the edge. In Maths we have been creating our own addition number stories involving a whole variety of characters. In Science we have explored materials and discovered which are waterproof, which float and which sink. We have then used this knowledge to create our own junk material boats!
This week in Year 1 we have enjoyed planning and writing our own version of the story “Peace at last”. The children came up with some great new ideas for characters and things that would keep their character awake, such as a bubbling hot tub in the garden! In Maths we have been learning all about money. We have explored different coins and notes and learnt the value of each. We looked at all the different ways we could make 10p using a variety of coins. We also practised ordering coins and notes according to their value. Any extra practise of counting or paying for things with money at home or when you are out and about would be great! Next week we will be looking at our local environment, particularly focusing on Kennington so please talk about what you see on your way to school. Enjoy your extra day of this weekend!
We had such great fun on our school trip on Monday! We went rock pooling looking for crabs, sea anemones, sea lettuce and so much more! We learnt so much whilst playing games about some of the creatures that live at Reculver beach. English this week has been based on our school trip and we have written recounts about our day. Within Maths we have collected data about the class’ favourite beach activity and then created bar charts and pictograms using this information. Within PE we have played team games ensuring we work together to reach the goal! We experienced a NED’s mindset mission workshop and are all determined to have a mindset like Ned where we never give up and encourage others and do our best!
Year 2 CATs choir
On Tuesday I had the pleasure of taking year 2 choir to a CATs collaborative day at John Wallis Academy where children took part in joint rehearsals with eight other primary schools across Ashford led by Sing Gospel. The finale was a performance to parents where schools collectively sang a range of songs as well as an individual piece. The children were so well behaved and a real asset to the school. A huge thank you to Miss Anderson who led the choir and has supported the children with learning a range of songs. We wish them luck for Saturday where they will perform some of these songs at Kennington Summer Fayre at 2.30pm. We hope you can make it!

Please can we remind you that if you are coming to an assembly that you walk around the building past the office and in through the side door of the hall and not via classroom doors. This ensures that all adults sign in appropriately and are accounted for. Please remember to sign out on your way out of the same door. Also if your child needs to use the toilets after school, please can you come to the office to access the toilets at the front of the school. This is for health and safety reasons as cleaners will be cleaning toilets across the school and this ensures that children are safe and that we are aware of who is on site in case of a fire. Adults in classes are not being difficult if they advise you to go to the front of the school so please respect these rules for the safety of your children. Thank you
NED assembly – a growth mindset
Year 1 and 2 children enjoyed a fun assembly this week about Ned, encouraging children to have a ‘I can’ attitude to learning. The company have left some yo-yos for us to sell so if you would like to purchase one, we have limited colours and styles left but they will be available until Wednesday 3 July.
