Happy New Year!

We hope you had a great Christmas break and wish you all a Happy New year.  The children came back full of enthusiasm with lots of stories to share yesterday. They have embraced their new topics and it was exciting to see lots of home learning being shared in classes.

Year 2 parents

As we are an Infant School, once your child finishes in year 2 they will move on to Kennington Academy or another school.  There is an admission process which parents need to go through to secure a place for year 3 which involves completing an application form on line and submitting this by January.  Applications are now open and the closing date is Tuesday15thJanuary 2019 at midnight.     www.kent.gov.uk/ola

Adverse weather arrangements

At this time of year we like to take the opportunity to remind you of the procedures we put in place should we have any adverse winter weather.

If it has been snowing heavily we will do everything we can to make sure the school is open however we have to take in to account the number of staff able to get to school and the safety of children and adults on the school site. Mrs Kent will liaise with Mrs Seal/Mrs Wratten at Kennington Academy and make a joint decision as early as possible in the morning.

If we have heavy snow we request that all children bring in a packed lunch as we may not be able to provide a school dinner.

We may also have to delay the opening of Breakfast Club until 8.15am to enable us to make sure we have enough staff and the school site is safe.

If any of these measures are put in place we will keep parents informed by putting up to date information on:

Website:www.downs-view.kent.sch.uk

Kent Closure site: www.kentclosures.co.uk

BBC Radio Kent

Facebook

We will also contact parents via email.

PLEASE NOTE: As long as we have enough staff and the site is safe the school will be open.

Pupil premium

As you may be aware if you are in receipt of certain benefits your child could be classed as pupil premium which can be determined by filling out a quick form from the office.  This could bring in extra funding to the school to benefit your child and others. Your circumstances may have changed since your child started school, so it’s always worth checking whether you fit the criteria. Further information can be accessed through the following link.

Menu for school dinners

There is a new menu available for the Spring terms. This can be found on the following link on our website:   http://www.downs-view.kent.sch.uk/caterlink-school-dinners/

Remember your child is entitled to a free meal every day funded by the Government.  If your child isn’t currently having school dinners but you would like them to try, please let the school office know.  They can have it every day or regular days each week.  It’s amazing how much more many children eat or try when with their friends. Dietary requirements and allergies are all catered for with all food cooked freshly on site by our amazing Cook Megan and her team.
