Here comes the sun……

Now the sun has decided to appear most days please ensure that you have put sun cream on your child before school and that they have a sun hatand water bottle in school every day.  We ask that parents do not give their children sun cream to put on during the school day as they cannot always put it on appropriately themselves.

Hedges around school

We have had some parents mention about the need for the hedges along the footpath to be cut.  Unfortunately these are unable to be cut at present due to birds nesting in the hedges.

What we’ve been up to……

This week in EYFS we have been exploring the story The Little White Owl. In the story the owl loves to create his own stories so we decided to create some more imaginative stories for the little white owl to tell to his friends. There were all sorts of adventures including owls getting lost and then rescued by unicorns! In maths we have been creating our own addition number stories and recording these pictorially and then on our ‘part part wholes’. We have also been trying hard to count on from the largest number when calculating the total number we had. We have also had fun learning how to make jam sandwiches. For some the spreading of jam was a little difficult so maybe a little task that they could continue trying at home!

Year 1 have thoroughly enjoyed reading Handa’s Surprise. We adapted it by thinking of our own fruit and animals from our local area. We used story tables to help us plan the new story.

In Maths we had been learning all about money. We have been recognising the value of different coins and notes as well as ordering and considering multiple ways of making an amount using different coins.

In Religious Education we read the story of the boy who threw stones at a tree and considered why it’s important to look after our environment; we thought about how we can care for the environment around us around school and home.

This week in Year 2 we have written our own versions of the Enormous Crocodile story, thinking of new tricks he can do to eat a juicy child. The stories were amazing and we were really proud of all the skills we used! In Maths we have collected data in the classroom to find out the favourite Roald Dahl stories. We have used this data to make bar charts and pictograms. In PE we have started to practise sending and receiving a ball using our feet. In computing we have been on a mini beast hunt to see how many mini beasts we could find; we will represent this data in different ways. We have started to practise our ‘Greatest Year 2 Show’ and hope you are all excited! Letters for parts and costumes have been sent out so if you have any questions or need support sourcing a costume then please speak to your child’s class teacher.

A plea

As you may be aware Mrs Little is in the process of creating an artistic scene at the front of the school with all children and staff making a contribution. In addition to needing pebbles, we also need acrylic paint in bright colours, varnish and coloured gravel (blue or grey). If you have any contacts who may want to help for us in return to advertise their company please let us know. We would be grateful for any amount! We have already received some from Wickes. We have written to B&Q and Dobbies and are also using the money received form our charity boxes in local places to contribute to this.

Blind Auction

We have 3 vouchers for a fairy/elf photo shoot session.   If you are interested in bidding for a voucher please write the amount you would like to bid along with your name and contact details in an sealed envelope.  The highest 3 bidders will win a voucher. Please label your envelope clearly and hand into the school office.  The voucher expires on 31stOctober 2018
