Welcome back!
We hope you have enjoyed the summer break. It’s great to see year 1 and 2 children back at school and settling well into their new classes. They have enjoyed seeing all of the amazing changes and especially liked the entrances to their classrooms and the new office/Reception area.
The children have come back raring to learn and face new exciting challenges. It’s great to see how much more independent the children are in their learning and in coming into school. We are looking forward to welcoming our new Reception families on Monday when the children will either come for the morning or the afternoon.
Changes in the office
An update for you following the recent parent mail regarding Helen’s recent resignation is that we will be interviewing next Tuesday for a new Office Administrator. Helen has kindly offered to support us on Wednesdays and Fridays until we have appointed so you will see her around for a little while yet. Jacqui Brown has decided that the Business Manager role was not suitable for her so Claire Pitts will be covering the Business Manager’s role in the office until we appoint. Amber Carter who is currently a Senior Midday Supervisor and Play Leader will also support for a few hours in the office with the telephone and admin tasks.
Home learning grids
Watch out for the new home learning grids which will come via parent mail very soon. This will give you an insight into what your child has been taught and how you can help at home. We have made changes to the curriculum.
Parking signs
We hope you like the new parking signs outside of the school which were designed by Downs View children as part of a competition we held last year. We do hope you will take note of the signs and always remember to park and drive safely around the school. We appreciate it does get very busy outside of school at pick up and drop off times but please ensure you park appropriately, avoiding the yellow zig zag lines and kerbs and that you see your children safely through to their classrooms. A few extra minutes, taking care will keep your children safe. We will continue our Feet on Friday and Walk on Wednesday schemes where any children who walk on these days will receive a sticker and be put into a weekly raffle.
Children coming to classes
If you arrive to school before 8.40am please can you wait with your child on the main playground and avoid queuing outside the door or gate which your child will go through as this is causing congestion and avoiding parents and children coming in safely to classes. The year 1 gate and all classroom doors will not open until 8.40am.
Year 1
What a great start to year 1 we have had! We have spent lots of time exploring our new indoor and outdoor environments, even completing a scavenger hunt to help us remember where things are which was great fun! We have loved sharing all our amazing creative homework and the teachers have been busy displaying this, it’s really brightened up our corridors! In English this week we have started to find out about our class animals and have been labelling them to help us remember each part. We are looking forward to finding out more about them next week. We are so proud of how well the children are coming in and settling in the morning. Thank you for helping them be independent in this. We will be sending our first homework grid home this week. Have fun deciding which piece to do and please do come and see us if you need any support with this.
Year 2
Welcome back to school! We have had so much fun getting to know our new classrooms, teachers and teaching assistants. Our classrooms are so inviting and exciting! We loved taking part in a scavenger hunt around the classroom to find out where everything is. We discussed and wrote about what we have done since we last saw each other. We have enjoyed writing about our class animal and have remembered so many exciting facts! Next week we will be using the story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as our inspiration for our learning, can you discuss or watch the film this weekend?
It’s not too late to get an English qualification
The course will be held at Kennington Academy from 9.30am – 11.30am on a Friday. Places are now available. For more information please contact the School FLOs.
