Year 2 – Polar Express Friday 16th December

Your child will have brought home a letter giving details of the showing of Polar Express in school on 16th December. The children can bring in their pyjamas to get changed into along with a small blanket or cushion to add to the experience. We will be drinking hot chocolate and eating marshmallows.

What we’ve been up to………..

This week in EYFS we have well and truly started thinking about Christmas. The classrooms are looking great with the trees and decorations up. We even made our own decorations to help decorate the tree in the hall! In Literacy this week we wrote our letters to Father Christmas and sent them them off so if you have not done this at home yet don’t worry Santa will get these by the end of the week! In Maths a cheeky little elf played tricks on us and took all the decorations off of our Christmas tree! We had to work out how many were left after he had taken one of each decoration away leaving us with 1 less!

We are all so excited to share the Christmas show with you on Tuesday. A little heads up as you look at the stage Caterpillar class sit to the left, Owls in the middle and Foxes on the right of the stage. Just so you know which side to sit! See you then!

In Year One this week the children have been creating their own story using the ‘Dinosaur the Pooped the Planet’. The children changed the character from the story and then wrote the dilema part of the story. In maths this week the children have been revising their number bonds to 10 (4+6=10 etc…). They began to solve addition problems to 20. They were able to use the skill of counting on and represented the problems as a part-part-whole model and as an addition equation.

Next week when you arrive at the Christmas performance there will be signs out showing you where to sit. Look out for the character you child is playing and this will enable you to sit on the side they are on.

Year 2 have looked further into the Polar Express story this week by using their senses to describe what they would have seen as they stepped off of the Polar Express into the North Pole.

In Maths we have mastered the inverse of multiplication as division. We have used the part part whole model to help us see both equations using the same 3 numbers.

We loved tasting different Indian food this week. We got to taste samosas, onion bhajis, poppadoms, mango chutney and naan bread. We discussed the similarities and differences between traditional Indian food and traditional English food.

In ICT we have become games testers this term. We thought critically about different games. We explored one of the first games ever invented, ‘pong’ and compared it to a similar game from today.

When you arrive at the Christmas performance there will be signs out showing you where to sit. Look out for the character you child is playing and this will enable you to sit on the side they are on.

Reception – Wonderful Writing workshop

Thank you to those parent/carers who attended the workshop which explored the developmental stages of writing. Mrs Smith shared some top tips on how to support children at home. This information will be on our website soon.

Our Christmas Tree

A huge thank you to Cerys Petri-Jones’ Grandpa who donated our gorgeous Christmas tree again this year. It was carefully picked by Cerys to ensure that there were enough branches for all decorations. We are sure you will agree how amazing it is looking with the children’s creations.
